ESL Philosophy

ESL at NSIS is different from the common TEFL practices around the world. In most cases, it is the aim of the program to make a person an effective communicator in everyday situations; to make tourist guides and people comfortable for a few weeks in a foreign land. Here, it is necessary to achieve a totally different goal. Our students need to be able to function in an academic environment. They need to be able to communicate more subtle ideas, write powerful essays, and understand complex ideas in text and speech. We are preparing our students to study using English, not just study English. In pursuit of this we use core texts that are designed to give a complete language experience using all four skills. In addition, there are various texts for all four skills. We include all through internet and teacher created programs. The goal for ESL students is progressive.
